Call for E-Rare-3 projects “Research on innovative therapeutic approaches in the field of rare diseases”.

E-Rare-3, “research into innovative therapeutic approaches in the field of rare diseases “ANR.

Total budget of around 14 million euros.
This call for projects, involving 18 countries, aims to promote research projects aimed at the preclinical development of therapeutic approaches in appropriate and established cellular or animal models.
Participating countries :
Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey.
For each project:
Minimum 3 countries, 3 to 6 research groups (8 if Turkey or Eastern Europe), maximum 2 research groups/country.

Therapeutic approaches may include :

  • Cell therapy (e.g. somatic cell therapy, cell-based regenerative medicine, tissue creation, therapies based on combining cells with XX or substrates, etc.)
  • Gene therapy (e.g. transfer of nucleic acids for therapeutic purposes, including DNA, RNA, oligonucleotides, etc.)
  • Pharmacological therapy (e.g. use of chemical or biopharmaceutical compounds including repositioning approaches, high-throughput screening of molecules, etc.).

Research projects submitted to this call for projects should be based on new ideas derived from consolidated preliminary results, and should have a strong translational research orientation, i.e. “bench-to-bedside” studies enabling rapid implementation in the clinic or in public health decisions.

The following are not eligible:
– Rare infectious diseases, rare cancers, rare adverse drug reactions in the treatment of common diseases;
– Interventional clinical trials or any other project requiring patient recruitment;
– Development of new cellular or animal models. Relevant cell or animal models must already be established for use in the project;
– Surgical or radiation therapies.

Funding per project in the order of 800,000 to 1 million euros
Each country will fund the teams from its own country according to its own terms and conditions.
ANR funding: 250,000 euros max per French team; if sme or other private company: funding between 20% and 40% of eligible expenses.

The call for projects is scheduled to open on December 5, 2016.

The deadline for submitting proposals is February 1, 2017.
